According to the CDC, "CA-MRSA infections differ from healthcare-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) infections in a number of ways. CA-MRSA infections are predominantly skin and soft tissue infections....and named USA300 and USA400 by the Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC)."

This antibiotic resistant, bacterial infection, first developed in the 1950's and has been increasing exponentially over the last few years. Since the mid 1990's, Driscoll Children's Hospital in Texas has seen child MRSA infections increase from a few per year to nearly 500 by 2003. About 90% of Driscoll's MRSA cases were in kids with no know risk factors. In Pennsylvania, The Allegheney Health Department reported 72 new cases in less than two months. Between August and September, 2007. Prier to 2007 MRSA was not considered a reportable disease, so accurate numbers in PA. are not available before this year.



All disinfectants are certified by the EPA. Every word of the label copy for a disinfectant is certified by the EPA. If the label only uses the word "MRSA" it is referring to the MRSA that is hospital acquired. Protocol for a disinfectant to kill CA-MRSA was NOT established until 2006. Formulations on the market at that time were not able to kill the CA-MRSA USA300 & USA400 bacteria. This is why the label from other manufacturers only states "MRSA", and will not change to CA-MRSA.
